Mental Health First Aid Training

I am now a certified Mental Health First Aid Instructor which enables me to deliver the following courses:
- 2 day Mental Health First Aider (Certified course)
- 1 day Mental Health Champion
- 1/2 day Mental Health Awareness
- 1/2 day Mental Health Refresher
We all have mental health, just as we all have physical health. Ill mental health can strike at any time and can affect people from all walks of life.
Although things are improving, stigma still exists around mental ill health. As a society, we don't tend to know how to take care of our mental health like we do our physical health. This means that people may not know how to support a friend, family member or colleague experiencing a mental health issue, or where to go for support with their own mental health.

Become a Mental Health First Aider
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a training course which teaches people how to identify, understand and help someone who may be experiencing a mental health issue.
MHFA won’t teach you to be a therapist, but it will teach you to listen, reassure and respond, even in a crisis – and even potentially stop a crisis from happening.
You’ll learn to recognise warning signs of mental ill health, and develop the skills and confidence to approach and support someone while keeping yourself safe.
You’ll also learn how to empower someone to access the support they might need for recovery or successful management of symptoms. This could include self-help books or websites, accessing therapy services through their GP, their school or place of work, online self-referral, support groups, and more.
What’s more, you’ll gain an understanding of how to support positive well-being and tackle stigma in the world around you.

Youth Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Training
A record number of youths are struggling with a range of mental health problems, and the trend is that this will continue to rise. 1 in 10 youths can experience a mental health issue, and suicide is a leading cause of death for kids aged as young as 5.
The reasons are numerous and some are unprecedented. Pressure to do well academically, pressure to fit in socially, bullying is now present not only on a physical but virtual level, there is not enough support by mental health professionals...
If you would like to know more, and also about Youth MHFA training, please do not hesitate to contact us. There are also some free resources available in the meantime on the MHFA website.

MHFA Feedback
Letter of Recommendation: Liz Rotherham
We recently engaged Ms Rotherham to deliver two sessions on Mental Health Awareness and well-being to our employees. One of these sessions was specifically tailored to suit the wider staff team and the other was aimed at our management team.
We chose this two pronged approach, as we wanted to ensure that our managers are able to support our employees competently and consistently. Topics covered included 'how to raise mental health concerns', 'how to approach difficult conversations' and 'what to look out for to indicate someone may be struggling' for instance.
For the wider staff team, our main aim was to ensure that employees were comfortable expressing any issues they may experience and to know that their line managers and ECPR as a whole, were committed to their wellbeing. It was very important for us to communicate that mental health issues are nothing to be ashamed of, and whilst anyone may struggle at any time, help was available.
Ms Rotherham came highly recommended and we have found her a delight to work with. As we were looking for a tailored approach, we had in the past struggled to find trainers who were able to take our many requirements under consideration. Ms Rotherham however had no such troubles. From the outset, she was professional, helpful and enthusiastic about working with us. We appreciated her flexibility and positive approach.
Feedback from our staff team was also overwhelmingly positive with many expressing an interest in learning more after attending the sessions. Staff found Ms Rotherham engaging and approachable, appreciating her friendly manner and accessible delivery of a complex amount of information. Her enthusiasm and knowledge around mental health and wellbeing is palpable and compelling. We have no hesitation in recommending Ms Rotherham for your training needs.
